The Losing Streak Ends as Servants Defeat Xenia
by: Greg Ostendorf
After losing 14 straight games, the Anderson Servants played like they were still fighting to make the playoffs in Tuesday's game at Xenia. They got strong pitching and executed on the base paths to win 4-2.
“It feels great to get a win because it’s been really tough for us,” head coach Kyle Rayl said. “We haven’t played that great, but we also haven’t caught many breaks, so to finally get a win and get a couple breaks feels outstanding.”
The team got a great pitching performance from starter Brandon Teppe who went seven innings only giving up two runs and struck out two. Lance Janke came in and pitched the final two innings without allowing a run to pick up the save and preserve the win for the Servants.
Offensively, the team had six hits on the night and was able to move runners over and get them in. The team stole three bases in the game and executed a couple hit and run opportunities as well, something they have struggled with this season.
“We went into today’s game trying to be extra aggressive,” Rayl said. “We stole bases, moved runners, and didn’t strike out with runners in scoring position. It was really solid for us.”
The game heated up in the seventh when catcher Anthony Lymberopoulos hit a dribbler to the pitcher with the bases loaded and one out. Xenia’s pitcher went to tag Lymberopoulos and gave him an extra shove which resulted in both benches clearing.
The Servants kept their cool the last three innings making some great plays in the field and hung on for their third win of the year.
The team gets the 4th of July off but travels to Grand Lake on Thursday to take on the Mariners at 7:15 p.m.
