Servants Endure Tough Road Trip before Heading into the All-Star Week
by: Greg Ostendorf
Saturday 7/7 -
It was the same old story for the Anderson Servants this weekend as they came close in every game but could not quite pull out a victory in either doubleheader.
Saturday, the team traveled to Ohio State University where they took on the Columbus All-Americans. In the first game starter Lance Janke threw five innings giving up two runs both unearned and struck out four.
The team tied the game at two in the top of the sixth when Jeff Mercer doubled to right field scoring Alex Rinearson from first. The All-Americans picked up a go-ahead run in the bottom of the inning and hung on to win 3-2.
In the second game, the Servants allowed only four hits but walks helped Columbus to score four runs in the game. Anderson struggled at the plate and got just one run across in a 4-1 loss.
After spending the night in Columbus, the team traveled down to Athens, Ohio to take on the Southern Ohio Copperheads. In game one Casey Stone pitched brilliantly only giving up two runs in six innings of work. Once again, the team could not their bats going and failed to score a run falling 2-0.
The Servants got off to a quick start in the second game when Garrett Lingle got a base hit up the middle and scored off another double to the gap by Mercer. In the second inning, Rashard Graves doubled to lead off, advanced to third on a groundball and stole home to score the second run of the game.
Despite another great pitching performance, this time by Tom Mueller, the team could not hold onto the lead late in the game and lost 3-2.
The Servants are off until Friday when they travel to Lima to take on the Lima Locos at 7:00 p.m.
